Liverpool Children’s Services have awarded the College Dyslexia Friendly Status in recognition of the dyslexia friendly practices the staff of the school use in their teaching.
A day’s training took place earlier in the year, which built on the training of previous years. Departments then developed action plans which have now been fulfilled. This has ensured that teaching now takes into account the needs of dyslexic learners. Lessons cater for the different learning styles of our students. The use of mind maps and Dictaphones are encouraged. Dyslexia is also taken into account in the assessment of students’ work; their knowledge is assessed rather than their spelling.
Dyslexia friendly teaching approaches are suitable for most children with learning difficulties and also maximise the learning for all children.
