SFX Strike it Lucky at Masterclass
National champions now creating next generation of coaches with LLS

Cream of the Crop
Those familiar with Merseyside schoolboy football won’t be surprised to see SFX College at the front of the cue when silverware is being dished out this time of year but the Woolton based school have this year taken it up a level even by their own very high standards with success under the national spotlight.

Year 9 and 10 teams both completed respective doubles collecting City and County honours before both progressing to ESFA National Cup finals earlier this year. Though the Year 9s fell just short the Year 10s were victorious seeing off Little Heath of Reading at Goodison Park after a thrilling penalty shoot-out. Not a bad effort considering 650 schools enter the competition at the beginning of the year.

Celebrating success
To celebrate the remarkable achievement LLS arranged for Everton U16 coach Phil Jevons to deliver a Striker Master Class with a selection of SFX forwards at Liverpool Hope University’s Childwall campus. Jevons, with 149 career goals as a professional, delivered an hour long session to students from Year’s 7-10 and commented on the schools recent success, “two teams from the same school reaching the National Final is fantastic and it was a pleasure to work with the players this afternoon”. The feeling was certainly mutual with the players one of whom, Nathan Lloyd, Year 7 commented, “my favorite part of the session was learning to time my run for an easy finish. Me and the team thought the session was top class. Thanks Phil!”

Next Generation

Building on its fine sporting reputation SFX have this year teamed up with LLS to deliver the Your Future programme to Sixth Formers keen on making an impact in the Sports Industry. In addition to gaining a BTEC Extended diploma successful applicants have the opportunity to gain local and international experience during the course with employment opportunities across the globe in places like USA, Finland, Sri Lanka and Qatar.

SFX Head of PE, Andy Brown had this to say about the partnership, “we are delighted to strengthen our Sixth Form offer through our partnership with LLS and I can’t wait to see our students accessing these global opportunities in the coming years”.

For those interested in applying for the course there are still a small number of places available. Please contact a member of the team on 0151 294 3229 or via email [email protected]
